WATCH: Bear rummages through outdoor fridge

WEST KELOWNA — A food thief has been lurking in a private camp in West Kelowna.

Tom and Sandy Lewis, the owners of the camp, noticed frozen foods missing from an outdoor fridge that belongs to the caretakers of the property.

One morning they found the fridge wide open, so they decided to set up a camera to catch the culprit.

“I think the first time, there were taquitos, perogies, and cream cheese missing”, said Sandy Lewis.

It didn’t take long to catch the suspect, and to their surprise, it ended up being a bear.
In the video, Yogi, a young black bear is seen slowly opening the freezer. He rummages his way through a number of items, tossing out bags of veggies until he finds a vegetarian pizza and runs off with it.

“He’s definitely picky and shopping for a particular item, he didn’t just take anything”, said Tom Lewis.

According to the couple, Yogi the bear has been around for years and has never caused damage to the property.

They say he’s never been a threat to anybody and that the dogs and horses on the property don’t mind him.

“We don’t want to see him relocated, he’s never been a threat. But we do tell our guests so they are aware”.
