Watch above: Police are investigating after the partial remains of an infant were found at a Toronto park
TORONTO – Police are investigating after the remains of an infant were found in a park Monday morning.
A city employee found the remains shortly after 9 a.m. in Heathrow Park near Jane Street and Wilson Avenue.
Police confirmed shortly after 3 p.m. Monday the remains were those of an infant. Toronto Police Detective Nick Nei said the body could have been there for “a couple of weeks” but police aren’t sure because a number of creeks feed into the park, covering the body in “debris.”
“It definitely poses a challenge. The little bit of information we have right now is limited,” he said.
Police say only the lower torso of the infant was found in the park.
The investigation is in the initial stages and Nei is asking anyone who may have information to contact police.
“We’re hoping to have somebody in the community able to recognize someone that was pregnant with an unborn child or someone with a child that hasn’t been seen lately,” he said.
