Five inmates are facing a number of charges after a fellow inmate was stabbed multiple times at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Dartmouth.
Halifax Regional Police were called to the jail at 4:50 pm Saturday , after staff at the facility reported an inmate had been seriously assaulted.
The Nova Scotia Department of Justice tells Global News that the jail was placed on lockdown after the incident, as per their policy.
The victim, a 39 year old man, was stabbed a number of times and transported to the QE2 Hospital in Halifax, where he remains with life-threatening injuries.
Officers have charged five adult males with attempted murder, aggravated assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
The five accused will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date.
