CALGARY- A massive fire broke out over the supper hour in northwest Calgary, completely gutting two homes.
The blaze was sparked around 5:30 p.m. in the community of Evanston, and a huge plume of black smoke could soon be seen around the city. Officials believe the fire started on a back deck.
One home was fully engulfed in flames, and footage from the Global News helicopter showed the fire spreading to at least two neighbouring homes.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire within about 20 minutes, but were on scene putting out hot spots for much of the night. Two homes were completely destroyed, while a third was badly damaged.
The siding on a number of surrounding homes was also impacted. Fortunately, no one was injured.
