REGINA – A few facts, and a lot of emotion – that’s how the Regina police are describing a post circulating on Facebook describing an alleged sexual assault last Saturday morning.

Police have confirmed that officers were called to the 1300 block of 8th Ave. N early Saturday morning, where they found a naked 28-year-old woman who said she had been assaulted by a man.

The woman was reportedly “extremely intoxicated” and not able to give a statement. She was taken into custody, and told to contact police if she wished to pursue a complaint. To date, she hasn’t contacted police.

Meanwhile, a Facebook post about the incident suggested that the woman had been held captive and called into question how police handled the situation. Police are aware of the Facebook post and caution people not to jump to conclusions.

“Some of the comments that follow on the page seem to suggest that people would take action against this individual, the male resident of the house, because they believe nothing else is being done,” said Elizabeth Popowich of the Regina Police Service.

“So I want to reassure them that the file is still being worked on.”

Police say at this time there is nothing to indicate the woman was held against her will.
