CALGARY- There was finally some good news for residents of flood-battered High River on Wednesday, with word that the Highwood River is not expected to flood this week.
Environment Canada has ended the rainfall warning for the Kananaskis region, which feeds into the Highwood River which goes through the town.
As a result, the river is expected to peak by late Thursday at 200 cubic metres per second, and the “broad peak” as its known may last for several hours.
Officials are monitoring the situation, and a voluntary evacuation order could be put in place for Wallaceville.
There is still a rainfall warning in effect for High River which could mean 20 to 40 mm of rain over the next 24 hours. Water may accumulate, so homeowners are asked to ensure their sump pumps are working and downspouts are functioning.
Regular updates will also be provided on the Town of High River’s website.
