HALIFAX – Mike Danton appears to be returning to professional hockey, and it appears his journey will take him to Sweden.

Danton, the former NHLer who served five years in a U.S. prison for a failed murder-for-hire scheme, posted on his Twitter account Thursday that he had signed with a Swedish club.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Danton did not clarify which club he signed with.

“Just signed my first pro contract in eight years,” the 30-year-old tweeted. “I’m off to Sweden for the 2011-2012 season. Thanks to everyone for their support.”

Danton played university hockey with Saint Mary’s the last two seasons, helping the Huskies win the CIS title in 2010.

Danton had nine goals in 87 NHL games with the Blues and Devils from 2000 to 2004.
