WATCH: Angus residents tell their stories of what it was like to witness – and survive – a devastating tornado which touched down Tuesday night. Catherine McDonald reports.
Alex Nedelkovski was at home in Angus, Ont. Tuesday afternoon when everything went dark.
When that blackness was accompanied by loud noises, he knew he had to get downstairs. He was only in his coal cellar for a minute when it hit: A cacophony of crashing and banging, an insane amount of noise from above him.
Then relative quiet. He stayed in the cellar a few minutes more, then emerged when he was sure the worst of the storm had passed.

His entire roof was sheared off his house. He stood, standing in his upstairs bedroom, rain pouring down on him in sheets.
He was at a loss.
He went outside to be greeted by the queries of concerned neighbours: Was he okay? Was he hurt?
Nedelkovski snapped out of his reverie long enough to grab a few personal items and hightail it over to a relative’s place, where he’s staying. But his home as he knows it is gone.

Georgina Sinclair says her dog Shelly first warned her family that something was wrong.
“The dog was the first sign, he was panicking, shaking and jumping up on us like something was happening,” Sinclair said.
She looked out the window and said the entire sky was green. She knew there were tornado warnings, but only realized shemight be in danger when she saw her town mentioned.
“And then when we see Barrie, Angus and all that, and the wind and I said, I yelled at my mom, let’s get down there now.”
Krystal Kearnan headed to the basement when the sky turned green. She’s lived in Angus for more than five years and now her home is destroyed – the twister sheared the second floor of her home right off.
Frank Colucci had a police officer at his house, taking a statement about Colucci’s cars, which had been broken into.
“We were standing on the front deck and I see the sky go green,” he said. “And before you know it the wind picked up and I see a trampoline two streets over flying in the air. I was yelling and we finally ran into the house and … no sooner than that happened, we got nailed.”
Although no injuries were reported, the community of Angus is currently under a state of emergency.
