CALGARY – A Twitter feud has broken out between Mayor Naheed Nenshi and Derek Fildebrandt of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) over city spending.
It began when the CTF submitted a FOIP request for information on whether the City of Calgary is paying Nenshi’s legal fees in a lawsuit he’s facing from home builder Cal Wenzel. The CTF submitted the request even though Nenshi had stated he is covering the cost himself. When the CTF announced it had confirmed Nenshi is footing the bill himself, the war was on.
Here’s a sampling of what they tweeted out:
The acrimonious exchange had dozens of Twitter users weighing in on the feud.
The war of tweets between Nenshi and Fildebrandt included other issues, such as the mayor’s position on city funding for a new Flames arena.
Will there be a round two? Stay tuned.
