VANCOUVER – The search for a missing Nanaimo writer and photographer has come to a tragic end.

Sixty-two-year-old Roy Ostling has been missing since Thursday, May 29.

His family posted on Facebook on Friday that Roy’s body was found on June 4 near Crescent Beach in Surrey.

Foul play is not suspected in his death.

The family wanted to thank everyone for their hard work and help:

As you can imagine, we are in shock and will get back to you with our plans.

We want to thank all of Roy’s friends for mobilizing so quickly to spread the word. The media and social attention today heightened everyone’s awareness. We also thank the Nanaimo RCMP for diligent efforts to find Roy.

Roy was last seen at his home in Nanaimo. His family said it was very out of character for him to disappear and not tell anyone where he was going.
