Port Alberni man in serious condition following shooting

The Canadian Press

VANCOUVER – A 32-year-old Port Alberni man remains in hospital in Victoria this morning following a shooting.

Mounties say just after 7 p.m. on Tuesday, officers responded to a call in the 3900-block of 10 Avenue. When they arrived they found a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to his lower body. The suspect appeared to have fled the scene.

At about 3 a.m. on Wednesday, the Emergency Response Team was called to Port Alberni and entered a home on Elkford Road in search of the suspect. A 35-year-old Alberni man was later arrested at a home in the Sproat Lake area and remains in custody today.

Police say the shooting was not random and the two men know each other. The home on 10 Avenue remains secured for investigators, and a small detour is in place for local traffic.
