TORONTO – To the displeasure of her neighbours, a woman in Kansas City, Missouri has turned her entire yard into a giant sandbox.
Georgianna Reid says she’s owned the house for 33 years and now that she’s in her 60s she decided she wasn’t going to mow or water the lawn any more.
The yard, which also includes lawn gnomes holding signs that read “Go Away,” took over 80 tonnes of sand to fill at a cost of roughly $4,000.
Reid said she would tell her neighbours she was “putting in the largest litter box in the world” when they would question what she was doing.
“I think the house looks revolting with all that out there,” one neighbour told KCTV. “It just doesn’t fit in,” another said.
Because the sand is being used for landscaping, Reid is not violating any by-laws, according to the city.
A volleyball net Reid had installed on her “beach” was stolen, as was a giant chess board.
Reid has since put a sign up offering a $2,000 reward to anyone with tips on who stole them.
