EDMONTON – A 39-year-old Strathcona County man is facing a number of sex-related charges in connection with a 13-year-old Edmonton girl.

They include possession of child pornography. plus two counts each of sexual assault, sexual interference, and luring a child.

Investigators believe Sean Palylk, the accused, met the girl on a social networking site and began exchanging sexually explicit messages with her. That allegedly continued for a period of two years, after which the two began meeting in person.

“The onus is on the parents when they provide their child with one of these devices — that they need to be monitoring what’s on it on a daily or weekly basis. They need to be teaching their kids about online safety,” said Sgt. Mike Lokken of the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT).

The investigation is still ongoing, and there may be more victims.

Detectives launched their investigation while examining evidence in an unrelated case.
