WATCH: Large rock dropped from overpass goes through Parksville woman’s sunroof

A Parksville woman is recovering from a terrifying ordeal after a large rock went crashing through her sunroof.

Kristin Nickells was driving home from Victoria over the weekend when a large rock came crashing through the sunroof of her Hyundai Elantra.

The incident happened as she was going under the Leigh Road overpass near Victoria.

She quickly pulled over and called RCMP, who found a large rock nearby with vehicle paint on it.

It’s not the first time this has happened on Vancouver Island.

Police have investigated a similar file in Nanaimo several years ago, where someone was throwing large rocks at vehicles travelling down the highway.

Police fear it’s only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt or even killed.

Nickells’ car is now in the shop, where the sunroof is being replaced and the trunk will get a paint job.

Insurance will cover the damage, but she’s out the $300 deductible.

Nickells’ is just glad she wasn’t injured.

Police have since received a second report where a rock was dropped onto a vehicle around the same time and place.

They’re asking anyone with information to come forward.
