TORONTO — Danny Wilkin and Lewi Morgan of UK band Rixton are learning that performing in a different city every night isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

“The hardest part about this whole thing is living out of your suitcase,” said Wilkin. “I don’t have my mom to iron my clothes anymore.”

Morgan agreed. “Getting [laundry] done becomes difficult. You’re never in one place long enough to clean your clothes.”

The two musicians — one half of the band — appeared on Global Toronto’s The Morning Show to talk about the success of their debut single “Me and My Broken Heart.”

The video for the song has had nearly 6 million views since being posted in late March.

“The last time I checked was maybe a month ago and I remember thinking, ‘Oh my goodness, that’s crazy!’ and then somebody yesterday said it’s over 5 million,” Morgan said. “It’s crazy.”

Morgan remembers the video shoot well. “First time I’ve ever ridden a motorbike in my life,” he said. “I was scared.”

They insist they’re OK with being described as a boy band — as long as people recognize they play their own instruments and write their own songs.

“The thing is, boy bands have money, cars, girls,” said Wilkin.

He and Morgan said they and bandmates Jake Roche and Charley Bagnall, while at an Irish pub in New York, devised a system for keeping each other in check.

“We have a game that we play called the ‘Mr. Game.’ Every month or so we take turns to call each other ‘Mr. somebody’ and it’s whatever problems you’re having with that person,” explained Wilkin, “so that you can air it and you can talk about it.”

Added Morgan: “Mr. Flirt pops up a lot with me. Nothing wrong with that.”

With more success in front of them, the two are confident they can stay the same.

“At the end of the day it’s always about us four,” said Morgan. “It started with us and it will end with us four so we constantly keep each other grounded.”
