RCMP lay charges in fatal hit and run near Penhold

CALGARY – A 25-year-old woman is facing charges in connection to a fatal hit and run near Penhold last week.

Trystan Sorensen was killed when he was hit by a vehicle on Highway 592, on Tuesday, May 20th.

RCMP say the 18-year-old was longboarding on the side of the highway with a friend when he was hit by an eastbound vehicle.

The next day, the owner of a 2003 Dodge Durango reported her vehicle stolen. Police say it was soon located burnt in a farmer’s field east of Innisfail.

The vehicle’s registered owner, 25-year-old Jessica Masyk of Penhold, has turned herself in to police.

It’s alleged she was driving the vehicle at the time of the hit and run.

She is charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident, public mischief and driving while unauthorized.

Masyk has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, June 20th at 9:30 a.m.
