#YesAllWomen sparked by Elliot Rodger’s YouTube videos

TORONTO – Both women and men are reacting on Twitter to Elliot Rodger’s YouTube videos and written manifesto he left behind after carrying out a deadly rampage in Santa Barbara, California on Friday.

Rodger, who killed six people before killing himself, posted a series of videos preaching “retribution,” among other things, for a lifetime of social and sexual isolation.

In rambling writings he titled “My Twisted World,” Rodger detailed his plan to kill his roommates and then invade a sorority, which he concluded symbolized the world that tortured him – beautiful women who would have spurned him in favour of the “obnoxious slobs” whom he also despised.

“You girls have never been attracted to me. I don’t know why you girls are not attracted to me,” Rodger said in his final YouTube video. “But I’ll punish you all for it.”

Rodger continues to rant about how he is the “perfect guy” and “supreme gentleman,” and how he doesn’t understand why girls go for “all these obnoxious men.”

“I will punish all of you for it,” Rodger repeated.

Over the weekend hashtag #YesAllWomen began to trend worldwide as people reacted to Rodger’s tirade.
