Suspect in Winnipeg bank robbery crashes car on Kenaston

WINNIPEG – A suspected bank robber crashed his getaway car on Kenaston Boulevard Thursday morning after officers chased him through a busy commercial area.

Police were called to the Scotiabank at 4910 Roblin Blvd. at about 10 a.m. for a report of a robbery. The robber had already fled.

Shortly after, officers began chasing a vehicle that at one point was speeding through the parking lots in front of Cabela’s and IKEA at Kenaston Boulevard and Sterling Lyon Parkway.

Moments later, the vehicle was involved in a collision at Kenaston and Lowson Crescent. Witnesses said a person fled on foot but was nabbed by officers shortly after.

Police remained on scene in the busy area into the afternoon.

There were no reports of injuries in the collision or the bank robbery.
