TORONTO — Pamela Anderson‘s mother Carol Anderson said she feels “numb” after her famous daughter revealed a history of sexual abuse and rape.

In Cannes last weekend, the 46-year-old former Baywatch star opened up about being molested by a female babysitter for four years, raped when she was 12 and gang-raped at 15.

“This whole thing is a complete shock,” Carol, 65, told the Daily Mail. “This is a terrible, dramatic thing to have happened to Pamela and if she went through that all by herself it is horrible.

“I am kind of numb over it all, I sat there with my mouth open when I found out. My husband Barry and I always felt we were there all the time for the kids so it’s just terrible to hear this now.”

Carol, who lives in Nanaimo, B.C. with Pamela’s father Barry, said Pamela sent her an email on the weekend to let her know about what she had revealed.

“It was as much a shock to me as it was to everyone,” insisted Carol, who told the UK newspaper Pamela’s younger brother Gerry cried for hours upon hearing the shocking revelations.

Carol told the Daily Mail she doesn’t know which babysitter it was who allegedly molested her daughter between the ages of six and 10.

“You’re leaving them with your prize possessions, but when you are a working family you have to have a sitter,” she said.

“I can’t believe she didn’t tell me at the time, she wasn’t a shy child, it’s heartbreaking.”

Carol said in addition to working two jobs to support the family, she was also battling ovarian cancer when Pamela was young.

“I was such a hands-on mom, but obviously I didn’t pay enough attention.”

Carol said RCMP want to talk to Pamela. “They are obviously taking the allegations seriously,” she said.

RCMP Corporal Darren Lagan confirmed the force is reaching out to Pamela. In Canada, there is no statute of limitations for sexual assault claims.

Carol is hopeful police can find the man who raped Pamela when she was 12. “I hope somebody is shaking in their boots thinking they had got away with it. If he’s still alive he will be worried, whoever he is.”

Pamela was born in Ladysmith, B.C. and went to school in Comox. Although based in California now, she returns frequently to her home province. The star’s sons — with rocker Tommy Lee — Dylan and Brandon attend private boarding school in Victoria.

The former Playboy model told Global News in 2012: “It’s important my children have the great Canadian perspective. Growing up in Malibu – it’s a bit of a bubble – and Canadians are such wonderful, polite and caring people. I would never have survived Hollywood without my roots.”
