Large pile of pot seized in drug bust north of Winnipeg

WINNIPEG – RCMP seized a large cache of marijuana in a raid just north of Winnipeg Saturday.

The Mounties showed pictures of a boardroom table covered in 71.2 kilograms of packaged marijuana, almost a kilogram of cocaine and four guns seized from a home on Murdoch Drive in the rural municipality of St. Clements just after midnight Saturday.

“Members from Selkirk RCMP and the East District RCMP police dog services assisted with the search,” RCMP said in a news release Tuesday.

Daniel Kupchik, 43, and Karianne Ridgedale-Maglian, 37, both of the RM of St. Andrews, have been been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, one count of possession of property obtained by crime, five counts of unauthorized possession of weapons and four counts of unsafe storage of firearms.

Both were in custody and due in court Tuesday.
