Drugs, alcohol may be factors in Round Lake, Sask. drowning

SHELLBROOK, Sask. – Mounties say drugs and alcohol may be factors after a woman drowned at Round Lake, Sask. over the long weekend.

Police say two Saskatoon women were kayaking in the middle of the lake on Sunday when one of the kayaks capsized.

The second kayak then capsized and the two women attempted to swim to shore.

They lost contact with each other and a 23-year-old woman was able to reach shore. She called for assistance and was taken to a Prince Albert hospital for observation and has been released.

Shellbrook RCMP recovered the body of a 24-year-old woman around 9:45 p.m. on the south side of the lake.

Her name is not being released at the request of the family.

Police say conditions at time were good and the lake was calm.

Round Lake is about 30 kilometres north of Highway 3 in the R.M. of Buckland.
