Delta police have charged a man in connection to the murder of his father in the municipality’s first homicide of 2014.

44-year-old Richard Maranda has been charged with first degree murder. His father, 72-year-old Frederick Maranda, was found dead in his Tsawwassen home Sunday evening.

WATCH: The body of an elderly man was found in Tsawwassen on Sunday. John Daly reports on how the community has been left rattled.

Maranda was arrested later that day and remains in custody. He is scheduled to be in Surrey Provincial Court later today.

In 2003 a Richard Maranda appeared in Surrey Provincial Court for aggravated assault, but was deemed not criminally responsible due to a mental disorder.
