33-year-old man killed in motorcycle crash on Vancouver Island

A motorcyclist has been killed after a crash on the Island Highway in Nanoose Bay Sunday morning.

The BC Ambulance Service said they were called to a crash in the 3000-block of the highway at around 9 a.m.

Oceanside RCMP said a man riding a motorcycle southbound when he lost control and slammed into a median. The driver flew off his bike and hit a sign, dying on impact.

The 33-year-old man was from the Lower Mainland, but has not been identified.

Traffic was heavily backed up for several hours, according to motorists in the area. The highway has since reopened.

The cause of the crash in under investigation.
