WATCH: Andrew Garfield, Arcade Fire explore gender identity

TORONTO — Actor Andrew Garfield traded his superhero costume for a bra, blouse, cut-off denims and high heels in the latest video from Canadian rock band Arcade Fire.

The 30-year-old star of The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel also dons a blonde wig in the video for “We Exist,” which was posted online Friday.

The video is described as a “young person’s struggle with gender identity.”

Garfield’s character is seen going to a local pub, where he is invited to dance by a man — but things quickly go bad.

In a fantasy sequence, the actor starts dancing by himself — much like Jennifer Beals in 1983’s Flashdance — before being joined by a group of burly back-up dancers.

The video ends with Garfield, wearing face paint and a dress, walking on stage during Arcade Fire’s set at the Coachella music festival in California and facing the crowd.

“We Exist” is from the Montreal band’s latest album, Reflektor.
