VERNON–It was quite a thriller at Kal Tire Place on Thursday night.
The Vipers needed a win against the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots to keep their RBC Cup hopes alive.
Everything was looking good, until just seconds left in regulation.
Toronto netted the first goal at 6:34 of the first.
The Vipers wasted no time in answering back, Brett Mulcahy tipped one in at 11:57. It was a power play goal, tying the game one all.
There were a couple of good chances and nice saves for both teams in the second, but no more goals until the third.
The Vipers outshot the Patriots by a long shot, and finally, with less than five minutes left in the game, Michael McNicholas passed the puck straight to the stick of Demico Hannoun, and Vernon took the lead, with a score of 2-1.
The Vipers fought hard to hang onto their lead. Toronto pulled the goalie with just over a minute left in play, then got a power play.
During a six on four, Toronto scored, with just seven and a half seconds left to tie it, and forced overtime.
In overtime, the Vipers got a powerplay, and Dexter Dancs puts one in the Patriots net.
Vernon now advances to the RBC Cup semi-finals on Saturday, against the Yorkton Terriers.
