More than a dozen firefighters were called to battle a series of spot fires about 60 kilometres south of Winnipeg on Wednesday evening.
It happened late Thursday afternoon just east of Rosenort, Man. The spot fires spanned several kilometres at one point.
A massive plume of smoke could be seen from Winnipeg.
Sparks from a Canadian Pacific Railway train caused rail ties to catch fire before the blaze spread to nearby brush, Rosenort fire officials said.
The fires are now under control.
Dry conditions are also being blamed.
