The wildfires sweeping across parts of California created a spectacular sight on Wednesday — a firenado.
The swirling vortex of fire is seen whipping across a hillside as the fire engulfs the trees.
This was an example of a fire whirl, where hot air at the base rises quickly with swirling winds. It was not an actual fire tornado, as these are tornadoes of fire created by fire conditions.
