TORONTO – Urthecast, a company out of Vancouver that had two of its cameras installed on the International Space Station (ISS) in January, has released more stunning images of Earth from space.
A medium-resolution camera and high-resolution video camera were launched to the ISS on November 25, 2013 and installed by two cosmonauts on January 27.
On April 3, the company released its first medium-resolution images.
These new images were taken on April 30, and capture the Gulf of California, Ajo, Arizona, and the Sonoran Desert.
Eventually users will have free access to some of the imagery. It will also provide data to users on when the ISS will pass overhead allowing people to see when their own homes are visible from space.
Organizations will be able to pay for use of the cameras for specific events. Urthecast believes that their cameras will be able to be used as a tool for a variety of sources, including agricultural monitoring, urban planning, or mapping.
