Charges not pursued for hunter riding deer down a hill

No charges for hunter caught riding what appears to be a wounded deer down a snow-covered hill. Submitted by: Michael Gordon

SASKATOON – No charges will be laid after an investigation into a case of suspected animal cruelty earlier this year.

A Facebook posting in February showed what appeared to be a hunter riding down a hill on a wounded deer.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment officials called the video disturbing and said that under the Saskatchewan Wildlife Act, the only charges that may be applicable would be for disobeying hunting regulations, species guidelines and hunting seasons.

They have now completed their investigation and presented the evidence to the Crown prosecutor’s office.

After a thorough review, the Crown said there was not a reasonable likelihood of a conviction if the case was pursued.

The Ministry of Environment has now closed the file.
