WINNIPEG — Crews have contained a fire in the Assiniboine Forest.
Fire crews were called to the Assiniboine Forest near Eve Werier Memorial Pond Sunday afternoon.
Large plumes of smoke could be seen coming from the area. The fire at its peak was about 1,000 metres in size.
More than a dozen firefighters used water backpacks and brooms to battle the blaze.
Fire officials said if it wasn’t for help from a pilot flying overhead and park patrons, the fire would have been more difficult to find, as it was in a dense, marshy area.
The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined.
