Charges pending against driver following fatal collision in northeast Edmonton

EDMONTON – A young woman is dead following a collision in northeast Edmonton Saturday afternoon.

The collision happened in the area of 76 Street and 154 Avenue around 4:30 p.m.

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) says a GMC Sonoma was heading west on 154 Avenue and hit a parked pickup truck. The passenger, a 24-year-old woman, was killed in the collision.

The 22-year-old man driving the GMC Sonoma was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. He has since been released.

Police say charges are now pending against the driver.

Police continue to investigate to determine the cause of the collision.

This is the second fatal collision in Edmonton this weekend.

On Friday, a 19-year-old woman was killed after being thrown from her vehicle in south Edmonton. The EPS says street racing may have been a factor in the collision.
