HALIFAX – An ultralight plane crash at the Stanley Airport in Hants County has claimed the life of a pilot.
The crash was reported to police at around 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon. The pilot, a 50-year-old woman, was the lone occupant of the plane and was pronounced dead at the scene.
It’s unclear whether the plane was taking off or landing when it crashed in a wooded area at the end of the airport’s runway.
“The Transportation Safety Board has the lead in regards to the actual investigation. The RCMP are assisting,” said RCMP Staff Sgt. Archie Thompson.
The victim’s identity is not being released at this time, but RCMP say she was from the Halifax area.
“She’d been flying for five years is what I understand. She loved to fly,” Thompson said.
The airport is located just outside of Windsor.
