EDMONTON – A Grande Prairie man has been arrested in connection with a fatal collision that happened in Edmonton earlier this year.

Ryan Richard Wilneff, 28, was arrested in Grande Prairie on Thursday afternoon. He has been charged with numerous offences, including impaired driving causing death, in relation to a collision on Gateway Blvd. that claimed a man’s life on Jan. 22, 2014.

The collision happened around 2:00 a.m. on a Wednesday morning.

Police say Wilneff was allegedly behind the wheel of a Jeep Wrangler that was heading north on Gateway Blvd. when it veered off the road between 60 and 61 Avenues. Officers say the Jeep knocked down a light standard, continued through a parking lot, where it hit several billboards and trees, before colliding head-on with the wall of a business.

A 28-year-old passenger of the Jeep was killed in the collision.
