TORONTO – The RCMP says it has raided the Ontario head-office of a Canadian organization that provided humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza.

Police say a Quebec residence was also searched as part of a terrorism-financing investigation into the International Relief Fund for the Afflicted and Needy.

They say they seized computers and documents from the office in Mississauga and residence.

Ottawa has formally branded the Canadian organization as a terrorist entity.

The moves come just days before the start of a court battle over the revocation of the group’s charitable status in 2011 for its alleged support for Hamas, itself branded as a terrorist organization.

A lawyer for the group condemned the listing.
