VANCOUVER – A 60-year-old woman has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a 61-year-old woman last December.

On Dec. 2, 2013, Burnaby RCMP were called to an apartment in the 4900-block of Hastings Street. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team were called and assumed conduct of the case.

The victim was identified as 61-year-old Christina Docherty.

“IHIT’s priority was to determine a motive for the killing and to identify witnesses, persons of interest and suspects that could assist in putting the pieces of this investigation together.  The perseverance shown by the investigators has paid off as four months later we can confirm an arrest and charge approval for this tragic death,” said Sgt. Jennifer Pound with IHIT.

Trudy Gail Hunter was arrested in Maple Ridge on April 25 and appeared in Vancouver court this morning.

“While this investigation is now before the courts I can confirm that it was connected to the drug trade and was not a random act,” added Pound.

IHIT was assisted by E Division Support Services, Burnaby RCMP and the Maple Ridge RCMP throughout this case.
