More than 100 vehicles keyed in Coquitlam over the weekend

Coquitlam RCMP say more than 100 vehicles were keyed on Saturday in Maillardville.

Police were called at 7 a.m. Saturday after residents discovered their vehicles keyed. It’s believed the vandalism occurred between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. Saturday morning.

ICBC will cover the damage for people who have the appropriate insurance, however drivers are responsible for the deductible.

Michelle Luca with the Coquitlam RCMP says there are still quite a few people who have not reported the damage.

“ICBC received 170 reports. Meaning, 70 people at least have not called the police. We are urging them to please call us so we can further the investigation together.”

Luca says thieves appear to have targeted vehicles parked in the driveways, car ports and on the street.

“We are really urging people to come forward if they were a victim, as well as anyone who may have been in the area and maybe seen anything suspicious.”

Police are also looking for any surveillance footage from the area.

Anyone with information is asked to call (604) 945-1550 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

In 2012, nearly 70 vehicles were vandalized in Burnaby near Lougheed Mall. Damage was estimated between $60,000 to $100,000.
