KENTVILLE, N.S. – Two men accused in the death of a homeless man in Nova Scotia have been remanded into custody until their case returns to court May 26.
Twenty-six-year-old Daniel Wayne Surette of Berwick, N.S., and 25-year-old Kyle David James Fredericks of nearby Berwick District, are charged with first-degree murder in the death of Harley Lawrence.
Lawrence’s body was found in a burned out bus shelter in Berwick on Oct. 23.
Relatives of Surette were in provincial court Monday in Kentville, some of whom were crying.
Police have released few details about the case, including the cause of death.
Local residents said the 62-year-old Lawrence began using the shelter for refuge as temperatures dipped last fall.
His death shook residents in the town of 2,500, about 120 kilometres northwest of Halifax.
