TORONTO — Canadian pop star Justin Bieber was detained at the Los Angeles airport Thursday upon his return from a trip abroad.

The 20-year-old singer arrived on a flight from Singapore and was held for secondary questioning — standard practice for non-citizens with open criminal cases seeking to enter the U.S. — by Customs and Border Patrol officers.

Bieber was released after about four hours.

The superstar had been in Asia with his mother.

In January, Bieber was detained by U.S. Customs in New Jersey after arriving on a private jet from Toronto. Last November he was briefly detained by authorities at an airport in Australia after he used expletives during a search.

Bieber is facing charges of DUI, resisting arrest and driving with an expired license in Miami Beach and a charge of assault in Toronto.
