WATCH: SPCA medical emergency website

Every year the BC SPCA takes in more than 25-thousand animals. Many of them require medical attention and those veterinary bills add up to millions of dollars.

The SPCA relies heavily on donations to help cover those costs. Now the animal welfare organization is introducing a new tool to reach more potential donors.

It has launched a medical emergency website that features pictures and stories of the animals needing medical treatment. The website allows donors to choose the animal they want to support and even track their progress.

“I think it really brings the people that donate and animals closer together,” says Kelowna SPCA manager Suzanne Pugh.

Every year, veterinary bills add up to more than 5-million dollars. It’s hoped the new website helps bring in more donations.

“It has been showcased in other shelters around the globe and it has been a successful tool” says Pugh.
