Young man critically injured after crash near University of Calgary

CALGARY- A young man was critically injured on Wednesday morning, after being hit by a vehicle while heading to the University of Calgary.

The 20-year-old victim was skateboarding in a marked crosswalk at 32 Avenue N.W., when he was struck by the car around 11 a.m. Police say the pedestrian crosswalk lights were flashing at the time, and four other vehicles had stopped.

EMS rushed the man to hospital in life-threatening condition.

Police are now investigating, and several roads surrounding the school were shut down.

Charges are pending against the 43-year-old woman driving the car.
