Thursday April 24th on The Morning News:

We’re changing things up for on our Morning News team on Thursday. Brett Ruskin will be filling in for Crystal Garrett on the desk Thursday and Friday. And he’s excited and ready to go with lots of great ideas and brand new ties to show off! Welcome to the Morning News Team Brett!

We’ll get things started at 6:45 with another installment of the “Whole Tooth”. Paul Brothers will talk with Dr. Stu Richardson about oral cancer. It’s a serious issue and should be taken seriously. According to Health Canada, oral cancer is the 13th most common cancer in the country. Dr. Richardson will talk about life after diagnosis and how people can spot some of the symptoms of oral cancer.

He’s been an active volunteer in Halifax for more than twenty years. The man behind the Parker Street Food and Furniture Bank is stepping down earlier than expected. Mel Boutilier will stop by the red table at 7:15 to talk with Brett about why he’s leaving and what he hopes his legacy will be.

Halifax figure skating fans are in for a treat! At 7:45 Jill with chat with a couple of cast members from Stars on Ice! The always popular figure skating spectacular is back and will feature performances by some of your favorites including Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir who just returned from their impressive showing at the Sochi Olympic Games.

Brett Ruskin will talk with two people behind an upcoming Word on the Street fundraiser called “Wine & Words” taking place at Bishop’s Cellar on Thursday August 24th. A little bit of wine and  a couple of local writers will be there to help raise money for the annual writers festival.
