Older woman dies of injuries following car crash in Nanaimo

A 77-year-old woman has died of her injuries following a two car collision in Nanaimo last night.

Nanaimo police and fire crews responded to a collision in the 6500-block of Applecross Road around 8:45 p.m. last night. The victim was rushed to hospital by paramedics but later died of her injuries.

Investigators said the older woman had been driving north along Applecross Road when her car hit another vehicle merging into traffic. The crash, police believe, may have caused her to lose control of her car and spin across and then off the roadway.

The three occupants of the other car were not injured and remained at the scene.

The Nanaimo traffic unit is investigating the collision and RCMP are asking any witnesses to contact the detachment.
