TORONTO — Only days after announcing a new partnership with Warner Bros. Records, Prince has released a new song.
“The Breakdown” — a ballad showcasing Prince’s falsetto — is available for streaming.
The song will be part of a forthcoming album.
“One of the things that we try to do is wait until we have other songs that go together with our favourites,” Prince explained during a recent appearance on The Arsenio Hall Show.
“That’s why it takes a long time to come out with albums these days.”
Last weekend, Warner Bros. Records announced it has struck a deal with the singer to release his previously-unheard music while giving Prince ownership of his hits.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
This summer, Prince will mark the 30th anniversary of his hit album and movie Purple Rain with a digitally remastered deluxe version of the album.
