CALGARY- A man was rushed to hospital with severe injuries on Sunday afternoon, after a longboarding crash in Sylvan Lake.

Around 2:30 p.m., three men were longboarding down a hill on Old Boomer Road at a high rate of speed, when two of them hit loose gravel.

They lost control and hit the asphalt road surface, and witnesses rushed to help.

A 22-year-old man from Red Deer suffered a severe head injury and had to be airlifted by STARS to the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, where he remains in the ICU.

The other man, also 22, was taken to hospital in Red Deer and has since been released.

None of the men were wearing safety equipment or helmets.

An investigation is now underway, and RCMP issued a reminder that long-boarding is classified as stunting, which can result in a $402 fine.
