CANORA, Sask. – RCMP called in a farmer to aid Saskatchewan Transportation Company (STC) bus passengers stuck on Easter long weekend after the bus skidded on Highway 5 Friday evening.

The bus slid onto its side just before 10 p.m. about two kilometers west of Canora, blocking both lanes of travel. Its back tires ended up in the ditch.

STC said a tow truck company was contacted but none were available so a local farmer came to the rescue.

“A local RCMP member knew of a farmer that had the equipment and was available, and called the farmer out,” said Dean Madsen, the chief operating officer at STC.

“The farmer was able to bring his big John Deere tractor with ‘duals’ and was able to get us out.”

Eight passengers were on board. There were no reported injuries.
