VANCOUVER – Rocky Point Pier was closed for a few hours on Thursday due to a 25-foot motor boat that was spilling oil into the inlet, according to Port Moody police.
At roughly 9 a.m. police were notified about a pleasure craft sinking off the pier but when they arrived at the scene found the boat partially sunk tied to the dock and spilling a “noticeable” amount of oil into the inlet.
Police have now plugged the leak and no more oil is spilling into the water.
Police are still trying to locate the owner of the boat.
The director of parks and public works and the manager of sustainability from the city of Port Moody were called, along with a salvage company and Port Metro Vancouver.
