He’ll never forget last year’s terrorist attack but that hasn’t deterred a Kelowna man from returning this year to run the Boston Marathon.
Keith Parks has completed 95 full length marathons, including nine straight in Boston.
Parks had finished running the 2013 event, and was at his nearby hotel room, when two bombs killed three people and injured more than 260.
The 53 year old admits to some reservations about returning to Boston for the Easter Monday race but takes some comfort knowing the level of security will be unprecedented.
“I think you just kind of trust things are going to go well. You can’t run in a flak jacket and helmet. I don’t think I’ll make any real changes, just focus on the race.”
Parks leaves Friday morning for Boston.
“Life is full of what-ifs and you just keep on going and here we go one more time.”
There will be 9000 more runners at the marathon this year than last.
And the number of police has been doubled, with 3500 officers patrolling the event.
Backpacks are not allowed on the course.
