Laval Police break up network of “party drug” traffickers

LAVAL – Police from across the province took part in a massive drug bust Wednesday.

Investigators say they broke up a network that was producing and selling so-called “party drugs” to teenagers.

For any parent living in Laval’s Vimont district, Aaliya Fontaine’s reaction is more than understandable.

She’s frustrated and angry after she found out an alleged drug trafficker was living – and doing business – right next to the Horizon Jeunesse High School on Sainte-Rose Blvd.

He was one of 36 people arrested in a massive province-wide drug bust.

Police say the network was distributing party drugs like ecstasy pills to youngsters.

It’s believed some of the students at the high school were some of his regular customers.

“Yeah it bothers me,” Aaliya Fontaine told Global News.

“You send your kids to school, and you hope they have structure.”

About 300 officers took part in Project Underground, an operation spearheaded by the Anti-Gang squad at the Laval Police department.

Search warrants were executed in 26 homes and 10 vehicles.

Tens of thousands of pills were seized in the raids, including ecstasy and methamphetamine.

“The target market for synthetic drugs is obviously the 16 to 25 year old bracket,” Sargeant Frederic Jean told Global News.

“We’re talking about high school, CEGEP, and university students.”

Police also recovered stacks of cash and quantities of other drugs like cocaine and marijuana.

More than 27 people were arrested in the operation.
