TORONTO – Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Randy Carlyle says he has yet to discuss his future with new team president Brendan Shanahan.
Carlyle’s status with the team remains a burning question as the NHL club attempts to pick up the pieces after a late-season freefall that resulted in Toronto missing the playoffs.
The team’s first order of business came Monday when Shanahan – a Hockey Hall of Famer – was formally introduced.
Carlyle touched on several issues during a season-ending availability at Air Canada Centre.
He says the club’s inability to capitalize on a strong showing during three road games in California last month was the turning point of the season.
The Maple Leafs won two of three road games in Anaheim, San Jose and Los Angeles before an eight-game losing streak derailed their season. Toronto managed just three wins over the final 16 games to finish 12th in the Eastern Conference standings.
