Help underprivileged women get job ready with a new haircut

A previous Dress for Success Vancouver event. Submitted

Dress for Success Vancouver, along with REDAVID salon products and West Coast Beauty are teaming up to help 50 underprivileged women put their best foot forward at their next job interview.

They are looking for 50 salon owners and hair stylists to offer their services for two hours or more as part of their inaugural Marathon Makeover fundraiser.

“It’s helping empower the women that we serve as well,” said Christina Florencio from Dress for Success.

Fifty women from the Dress for Success database have been invited to the event, set to take place on April 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Endz Hair Studio in Vancouver.

Helping a woman with her looks is just one part of what Dress for Success does. They help women not only look their best with a new outfit, but look for jobs, prep their resume and make sure they are on the path they want to be on. “Once women have landed the jobs we invite them back for two more outfits for free,” said Florencio.

“Our values are empowerment, dignity, really enabling that self love. Our number one vision and goal is that they are feeling empowered.”

The goal for this fundraiser is to raise $10,000 for Dress for Success Vancouver to support 50 women transition into the workplace with confidence.

“We really believe that a transformation not only starts from the suit or the haircut, but is about that empowerment,” said Florencio.

She said they are finding more women are coming to join their organization because the cost of living in Vancouver keeps growing and many young women or new mothers trying to get back into the workforce can’t keep up.
